And while in a few special applications, like in oval track and marine setups, a direct coupler is used, the majority of all automatic transmission installations utilize a torque converter. In addition to functioning as a fluid coupling between the engine and transmission, a converter provides an additional benefit through multiplying the torque input, much like a gear set. There are a number of parts in a torque converter, three of which give it the basic operating characteristics… the pump, the turbine, and the stator. The pump has rows of curved prelude accessories and nikon camera accessories vanes arranged inside a bowl-shaped casing. the turbine is the part that actually is responsible for turning the transmission-input shaft. like two electric fans prelude facing each other, one with the power on, and one with the power off camcorders accessories working in unison causing the internal rotation. when a car is just beginning to move from a dead stop the pump will be rotating much faster than the turbine. therefore the oil will be working against the turbine blades with a great deal of force. in the process of passing through the stator, the prelude direction of the flow of the atf is reversed. if this fluid were simply allowed to re-enter the pump, it would have a tendency to work against the pump’s direction of rotation. instead the fluid is forced though the stator section of the converter which uses the special shape to reverse the direction of flow. for best results, the converter and the engine should share the workload… this is why you should make sure you get the custom suited application. our company manufactures four extremely popular street/strip torque converters, the 9", the 9.5 inch, 10" and the 11-inch. the primary difference between accessories the four is the stall speed ratings. the typical stall speed obtained in the 11 prelude inch is approximately 2400-2800 rpm. of course each converter dimension has its own nuances. for example, determining which type of 11" requires some information. engines that are more powerful can use a slightly tighter application while the heavy car with a small inch motor needs a looser converter, which enables the engine to quickly reach a higher, more productive rpm range. the 9.5" accessories & 10" converter are the our company most popular converter and is available in standard 3400 plus rpm stall and 4000 stall versions as well. in some special cases, we even create 3000-rpm units. |
